Chicago White Sox’s new third baseman Matt Davidson has admitted he is desperate for the new season to start following his move from the Arizona Diamondbacks. It’s been quite a year for the 22-year old, being traded to the White Sox in December in exchange for Addison Reed, as well as making his mark on the Futures Game in July.
During his appearance at the annual Futures Game – the all-star contest for promising prospects split among teams from the United States and the rest of the world – Davidson produced a sensational performance. During the July 14 game, Davidson hit a two-run home run to centre field in the fourth inning at New York's Citi Field, going on to win the MVP award in the United States' 4-2 victory, a result tipped by a number of Betfair customers ahead of the clash.
Davidson followed up his performance on the international stage by flying across the country and winning the Triple-A All-Star home run derby a day later in Reno, Nevada, making his mark with Betfair customers.
The fact that he was traded for a proven major league star could have the potential to heap too much pressure on the youngster’s shoulders, but when looking back at the last six months of 2013, Davidson has admitted he will just be looking to take everything in his stride.
"I just want to be on the field now. I just want to wake up, go work out, go play, go home and relax. I'm really looking forward to that."
Davidson will be battling it out with Conor Gillaspie and Jeff Keppinger as the White Sox third baseman options to start the 2014 season, in a fascinating MLB season that will be covered by Betfair, and the youngster may have to head back into the Triple-A league in order to prove himself, and the former 35th overall selection in the 2009 draft has made it clear he would be willing to do: “If I have to go to Triple-A and work on it, I will.”
There are news reports that the Mets are beingfinancially hit off the field due to money loss and they are trying to handle the situation. As such, all signs point to serious offseason payroll slashing because there may not be enough money for everyone on payroll in the Mets. Besides this small setback there are some MLB rumors that reveal that the Mets may get to sign one of the next winters’ biggest prizes. Cecil Fielder who is a big legend of the game may have a son who is looking for a team to follow in his father’s footsteps.
Cecil Fielder, who is a well, recognized star in the Yankees, has a son named Prince Fielder who also loves the game like his dad. The funniest thing is that as a first choice, the father did not choose the Yankees. In several news reports that he has been quoted speaking reveal that he does not want his son playing in the Bronx. At a charity event in the Yankees stadium, Cecil Fielder was quoted saying that he wants his son to land in New York but he doesn’t think that the Yankees will have him. Instead he prefers the Mets.
The new NBA season will provide plenty to speculate about and one of the topics that will be worthy of that speculation will be which rookie - or rookies - will have the most upside or to contribute in their first year as an NBA player.
Even players taken in the first-round may not feature a lot yet, it depends where they fit into the overall system in their respective teams, but we think that this quartet will see plenty of game time for their respective teams:
We’ll start with Tony Mitchell, who was once viewed as a top-five pick after his first season at North Texas. Since then it hasn’t quite worked out for the point-forward but few players boast his combination of skill and athleticism, with the right coaching he could well improve further. He’s looked good during the summer league although games in that competition can sometimes be deceptive. There will still be an adjustment period, but Mitchell could very well become a big steal for the Detroit Pistons and has more than enough upside.
The Orlando Magic look to have picked up a “box-fresh” rookie in Victor Oladipo; he can physically play in the NBA from day one and few athletes have had his combination of strength and athletic ability coming out of college. He also has two skills that should earn him major minutes right away – he already plays as hard as anyone in the NBA, and secondly he can immediately be a lockdown defender. Punters at Betfair seem sure the Magic won’t be afraid to throw him in from the start.
Another rookie who is more than ready for the NBA is Anthony Bennett of the Cleveland Cavaliers, he has more than one-dimension and that will really make defences think about how to cover him; the Cavs really reached for Bennett with the No. 1 pick, so despite the logjam at power forward, you can expect him to get significant minutes.
To complete the quartet we have gone for Michael Carter-Williams who will see plenty of game time with the Philadelphia 76ers; he has athletic ability and size and his physical attributes will see him through his first season in the league. He can be a little wild and careless, but he does show special court vision and he’ll get plenty of time to show that at the 76ers.
Four players, four rookies – all have a big season in front of them but all have plenty of upside for teams that could have wildly differing seasons.
How will life look at without baseball?
Thanks to some forum friends for sharing this amazing video! If this guy's baseball career doesn't work out, he should look into gymnastics..
Practice always makes perfect or almost perfect. Personally I would like a pretty model to speak out in this video.
Practice in not only for sports. Many players online also need to sharp their skills if they don't want to lose their money. And just as with online casino, if you'll come to the tables without a shape, plan and execution, you're bound to loose big!.
The lockout in the NFL seems to be the latest talk in NFL news. Everyone is worried if there is going to be an NFL season. So they may be a choice that you may not see your favorite NFL player or your favorite NFL team. You can stay tuned to the latest NFL news to find out more on the lockout. There may not be any more Monday night football, no more touchdowns, no more interceptions, no more going to games and sitting on the bleachers eating hotdogs. It’s going to be a long summer if this lockout happens, not only to the fans but also to the NFL players.
The NFL players rely on the money they make to take care of their family’s. If there is a lockout this means that the NFL players will have to go out and find another way to support their love ones. This would be hard to do if the majority of your skills are based upon playing football. Could you imagine walking into the nearest McDonalds and having Brett Favre serve you? Or having Michael Vic fix your car? All that good talent would have gone to waste. So please no lockout in the NFL.
It seems nothing will stop Evan Longoria appearing in a Tampa Bay cap this summer after the 27-year-old revealed he is fighting through severe plantar fraciitis pain just to make the plate each day.
There has been extensive concern from MLB betting fans Longoria was about to hit the disabled list after appearing as designated hitter rather than 3B over the past few weeks, which culminated in him taking time off over the Rays’ weekend series victoryagainst Detroit.
Yet Longoria has insisted he isn’t heading to the DL and in the process revealed what’s been up recently:
“I’ve been battling with the plantar stuff for a better part of the month now and it just felt different (on Friday),” he told the Tampa Tribune. “I know that at least for now, I'm not going on the DL, which is good.”
Indeed, Tampa Bay fans betting MLB World Seriesknow how valuable Longoria is to their offensive line, although the Rays did go on to beat Detroit in their two games without him. His hurt isn’t something he can’t recover from quickly, for it involves inflammation in the tissue around the bottom on the foot – not good for a player who steps forward into swings and must hold his ground on base.
Yet Tampa cannot afford to let this .298 batter hit the DL and will instead hope he remains a bit-part player on the roster until his inflammation dies down. It’s disappointing he will likely miss a crucial part of the Rays’ season – with successive AL East series against the Blue Jays, Red Sox and Yankees this month – but maybe a rest over the coming week will be enough of a recovery period to send Longoria back out to the plate in time for Toronto’s arrival.
